After teaching in Anchorage for several years\, she followed in the wake of many Alaskans\, crewing in the gillnet and long line fisheries\; then operated a charter business for 15 years\, specializing in marine eco-tours. She subsequently worked as an agent at Alaska Airlines for ten years.\n\nA founding member of Island Artists Gallery\, a local art co-op open year round\, she remains active in that endeavor\, as well as in her position as resident manager at Fisherman's Quay\, a multi-use waterfront facility\,\n\n"The consistent focus in much of my work"\, Barb says\, "has been that of serving people\, mostly visitors.
